I recently read a very moving story of a grieving husband who had lost his wife to tragic circumstances attributed to Suicide by hanging following a period of depression whilst awaiting referral for support from her under-resourced local Mental Health Team article on the front page of a local newspaper “Rochdale Observer” with the below headline “Help too Late to Prevent Tragedy!”
I can empathise fully with this very sad situation and her husband,s and the family members who have been effected by this loss, I to was refered to the same mental health team originally and can testify to the fact it took me many attempts to chase up my referral and move it on to get my first appointment, I did not feel suicidal fortunately at any stage and therefore understand that I wasn’t a priority, however how many people do feel this way at the time of requesting help and then later go on to attempt or commit suicide? more resources are needed now and a better safety net for people who are perhaps needing more help than they necessarily feel they need due to the nature of their illness or are reluctant naturally to admit the full extent of their state of mind when they often do eventually seek some help!
